The HR Department: Breeding Ground of Monsters

Posted by tdepp on January 3, 2009

As boss Michael Scott said in an episode of The Office this season, Human Resources “is a breeding ground for monsters.”

This might be a bit of an exaggeration but frankly, if you are a worker, it’s really not too much of one.

While a company’s human resources department serves many important functions, it is there primarily to serve the needs of management and the corporation and not the workers’.

HR keeps the company and its managers out of the soup.  That’s its primary job.  It is not there primarily to make he worker’s job easier.

If you are an employee, remember that.  You will often be instructed to take your complaint of discrimination or harassment to HR.  Do that. But remember: they are not your friend but management’s friend.  And a breeding ground of monsters.
