The Topeka Police Department’s helicopter force might be grounded after a series of serious mishaps. WIBW-TV has the details in the report below.
But before that, one of my not so fond memories of Topeka is hearing that damn chopper buzzing Washburn University and the surrounding neighborhoods on what seemed like a nightly basis. Sometimes they were after bad guys. Sometimes they were keeping an eye on us stupid frat boys as we went on panty raids and snowball fights. But during the 1970s and 80s, when I think Topeka and night, I think about the distracting thump-a-thump-a-thump of the “Topeka Air Force” and their damn search light.
